Hello from Anchorage!
Our eagle landed a few days ago, not as planned, but being carefree brings no worries. Our intention was to stop over in Wasilla and Palmer area before arriving in Anchorage BUT Wasilla was under great construction and I took a wrong turn! HaHaHa! So we will return to the area when we exit e is not to be mentioned) the Kenai in a few more weeks. Wasilla is known for growing the largest vegtables in the state! (yes we all know who else too, but shCan you believe the record is a 49 pound cabbage? There is ample daylight, combined with the warm and moist air it is a perfect condition for farming.

We drove around and quickly became aquinted with the city. So much like Seattle, mountains to the east and water to the west. There is a lot to be said for this city. One, it is very clean. Two, it has more parks and recreation areas than any other city I have ever been in! There is no wonder why moose roam downtown because within a few miles there will be huge parks containing trees and trails!

Just in time for the Saturday market!

....and meeting new friends!

Outside eating establishments are common. There are street vendors on most corners selling reindeer hot dogs, and a variety of meat products.

There is art on most corners. Nancy is hoping to land a fish this size!

A road trip to Girdwood. Famous for skiing and local artists.

Don't be fooled by the airport sign! It is a short strip of grassy land only large enough to accomadate a small personal aircraft.

Anytime the vehicle leaves a state highway the wheels find themselves "off the pavement." Girdwood consisted of 1 mechantile, 1 cafe, a post offoce and an Elemetary/ Jr high scool combined. Many homes in the surrounding hills provided a range of comforts.

Just another way for a local to earn a living1 Get your picture taken upon this fella!

The clouds rushed over the mountains to hide the peaks

Returning to camp, the clouds lifted just enough, treating our eyes to the
water and mountains. As the picture portays, the weather had changed to rain
and rumor has it that it will remain.
