here's the SCOOP!

The terrain changed from valley to mountains as we climbed out of Fairbanks anxious to explore Denali. For all of our road warriors, you can see that the pavement is solid with the exception of a few frost heaves along the next 125 miles. I think we'll take is slow and easy!

South Alaska Hiway 3 follows the tracks with peek-a-boo's here and there.

We are about 30 miles from the village and the entrance to Denali National Park. Keep your eyes skinned for moose in these bogs!

Just about there...

Nancy and I have a collection of pictures of us standing at various Park entrances. This one will be proudly added! Many of our National Parks are prohibiting personal vehicles from entering up to a certain point. DNP has an extensive bus system that begins at the first campground at mile post 3, and if you are willing to ride 13 hours they will bring you to Kantishna camp at the end of the road milepost 92! Cars are permitted to enter  ONLY to milepost 15, unless you have a reservation for Tek River at MP 29. ABSOLUTELY NO CARS BEYOND THERE! Even if you are camping beyond mile 29 you have to take a bus in! For example, we have reservations at Tek Campground, but we are not allowed to take in our tow car. It will stay at the visitor center for the 4 days we'll be deep in the park.
We scouted out this Caribou on our way out to Savage River Campground at mile 15.

Two beauties, the animal and the mountains...

MOOSE! They are everywhere!

For the tourists with alot of money and less time, they can take a cruise into Anchorage, then board a train to DNP...and beyond. Look! Here they come now! What a nice lady greeting them! Everyone was waving a welcome!

On our agenda we checked out the digs our dogs will be staying at when we are inside the park camping. The green house on the left is a large agility center, the house on the right is the kennel...WHOOPS... I mean spa, where they will spend most their time. The logs in the foregound are being hand skinned for a custom resaurant and meeting room, hence the shavings! Yes, we are helping to pay for it! Hey, maybe we can get jobs here!  Nancy can cook in the new restaurant and I can SCOOP poop!

This is how light it is at 2AM! Truly land of the midnight sun...
